November 21, 2024

msloc gradudatesAs Northwestern MSLOC students work through their fall quarter coursework, let’s take a moment to learn more about our students' and celebrate the remarkable career achievements of our recent alumni.

Fall 2024 Student Population

Our student body continues to grow more diverse, drawing learners from across identities, geographies, and professional backgrounds to join and advance our vibrant community of practice. Among our more than 125 current students:

  • 88% are pursuing an MSLOC degree, with many also pursuing one or more graduate certificates.
  • 12% are currently pursuing a graduate certificate—in LOC, coaching, equity and inclusion, or change and design—only.
  • 52% are Illinois residents. The other half are studying from a total of 26 U.S. states (plus DC).
  • Our students span four generations—Boomer to Gen Z, with an average age of 36. Millennials (Gen Y) currently make up the largest group.
  • 36% identify as BIPOC. Additionally, our current students have 7 different countries of origin.

2023-2024 Graduate Career Outcomes

Our alumni continue to achieve outstanding career success. Let’s take a look at their impressive employment outcomes and the roles and industries where they are making a significant impact.

Of the 38 program alumni who completed their MSLOC degrees and/or certificates between July 2023 and June 2024:

  • 97% were confirmed to be employed by organizations and/or active entrepreneurs as of July 2024
    • 92% were employed on their graduation/completion date
    • 94% were employed three months post-completion
    • 100% were employed six months post-graduation (to date)
  • 13% were active entrepreneurs as of their graduation dates

As many of our students complete their degrees part-time, we also look at job changes for all students during their studies. For our most recent graduates, 52% of all job-seeking degree graduates (part-time and full-time) won new roles at new organizations, and an additional 24% have new roles (job changes/ promotions) at the same organization.

While many roles cover multiple areas of LOC practice, we assign a primary focus area to each role based on title and organization.

  • 50% of those employed were in roles focused on individual performance in organizations (e.g., talent management, learning and development, coaching, leadership development, etc.)
  • 50% of those employed were in roles focused on enterprise performance in organizations (e.g., DEI, organizational development, change management, etc.)

msloc current roles

We continue to see the strongest representation from Professional Services, Education, and Technology industries among our graduates' current roles. While we have previously not calculated this data annually, we know these industries have been strong for many years and we are heartened to see their continued strength given the challenging markets each of these industries has faced recently.

  • 34% of recent alumni work in Professional Services
  • 24% of recent alumni work in Education
  • 16% of recent alumni work in Technology
